Lavandière de la nuit
Performance installation / Bruthaus Gallery @ Claessens Canvas / 2019
Camille Dufour (B, 1991, Mons) develops an approach to printmaking that combines installation and performance around monumental wood engravings. In 2017, she graduated from La Cambre ENSAV. His graduation project, حلب صاو evokes the siege and disappearance of the city of Aleppo. During this performance, Camille Dufour prints her engravings by hand using Aleppo soap until the ink runs out. The erasure of the engraved motif by successive impressions aims to symbolically wash away the disasters of war and the overflow of media images.
In 2019, Camille Dufour continues her research on catharsis and prints until the ink runs out of around one hundred woodcuts on canvas in the Claessens Canvas manufacturing plant. This series, Lavandière de la nuit, which revisits the theme of the apocalypse in the Anthropocene era, is subsequently exhibited at Wiels, at the Wallonia-Brussels Center in Paris and at Ijsberg in Damme.
With the series of the 7 sins of capitalism Camille Dufour returns to the origins of printmaking as a means of reproduction and popular communication. This urban display project intends hundreds of original prints to be completed and / or taken away by passers-by. For BIP2020, the viewer is invited to take the prints with them in order to display them themselves in the city of Liège, the device will continue in May 2021 at the Wallonia-Brussels center in Paris.
Since 2018, Camille Dufour has been collaborating with the Bruthaus Gallery. She won the Prize for Engraving and Printed Image the same year and won the Prix de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles à la Médiatine in 2019. In 2020, she obtained the VOCATIO scholarship and was awarded the BIP 2020. In 2021, she won the Dacos prize and the Un futur pour la culture grant. Since 2020, Camille Dufour has been professor of engraving at ESA Saint-Luc.
