Lavandière de la nuit

Performance installation / Bruthaus Gallery @ Claessens Canvas / 2019

Lavandière de la nuit, video, Claessens Canvas, 2019

The installation performance, Lavender of the night {1}, exhibited in the premises of Claessens Canvas {2} presents the prints of two monumental woodcuts. This work revisits the theme of the apocalypse through the vision of the threats and violence that weigh on our societies in the era of the Anthropocene.

The process is a continuation of حلب صابون realized in 2017. During the performance, the matrices, inked only once, are printed by hand using a soap until the ink runs out. For a month, in a mise en abyme setting where the artist takes place as employee of the factory, a hundred woodcuts were printed on canvases and hung as and when.

The process is a grueling battle to symbolically wash away the ills of humanity. An attempt at catharsis.
